Couples Retreat

October 2, 2023 - October 7, 2023

Hosted by the Immanuel Baptist Church

Itinerary:

Day One

Today is a travel day that will include flying from our home airports to Albuquerque International Sunport. Upon arrival, we will gather luggage and begin travel to the Amanda Ranch, where along the way we will enjoy the ever-changing landscape of the New Mexico desert. A stop will be provided for a quick lunch.

We will arrive at the Ranch in the late afternoon, where accommodations will be assigned and guests will have a chance to get settled, to relax, or to take a walk before dinner. Dinner will be served on the patio (weather permitting) where panoramic views can be enjoyed.

After dinner, we will enjoy time as a group walking down to the Riverwalk along the San Juan River and time around the bonfire. Leisure time can be enjoyed until guests choose to retire for the evening.

Day Two

We will wake up to a delicious pancake breakfast, after which we will tour the ministry to the Navajo Indians built by Don Chitty and his family over the decades. Bro. Chitty will be our host for this tour. For lunch, we will enjoy a sumptuous Mexican feast at Los Hermanitas in Farmington.

Then, we will travel to the Aztec Ruins National Monument in nearby Aztec to see the preserved structures built by the Pueblo Indians. There, we will experience how the Pueblo Indians lived over 900 years ago. Along with the accompanying museum, there are also beautiful gardens and a nature walk over the Animas River, connecting the monument site to the City of Aztec’s historic downtown street.

We will return to the ranch house for a brief period of leisure time before dinner is served. After dinner, guests may rest or play games in the ranch house, while others may sit by the bonfire where they can enjoy the desert’s vast night skies, roast marshmallows, and fellowship with one another.

Day Three

Today is a slower day in which guests may rise at their ease and eat a self-service breakfast in the ranch house. Late morning devotions with Pastor will be enjoyed on the patio, weather permitting. After this, guests may choose to enjoy a myriad of activities on the ranch, including but not limited to riding ATVs, walking and fishing down by the San Juan River, and horseback riding. Experience a Chuckwagon Steak Cookout on the grounds as an early dinner, after which will be time to rest and prepare to attend Wednesday night church at Open Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Don Chitty. After church, we will return to the ranch house for a time of games, fellowship, and rest.

Day Four

Today we will grab a quick breakfast at the ranch house, after which we will travel through the Navajo Reservation to Four Corner National Monument where the states of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado join. There, guests can take photos and also purchase various souvenirs that are handmade and sold by the Native Americans. We will stop along the way in the town of Cortez, Colorado for lunch. Our entire afternoon will be spent at Mesa Verde National Park. This wild landscape of deep canyons and expansive vistas is where, for over 700 years, the Ancestral Pueblo people built thriving communities on the mesas and in the cliffs. Tour the cliff dwellings, hike along copious canyon trails, and visit the Chapin Mesa Archeological Museum and bookstore. We will return to the Amanda Ranch for Navajo night where we will enjoy iconic and delicious Navajo tacos with all the fixings. After this, guests may rest or play games in the ranch house, while others may sit around the bonfire for fellowship.

Day Five

Today we will rise early, grab a quick breakfast at the ranch house, and head to nearby Durango, Colorado. We will board the Silverton Steam Train for an unforgettable step back in time as we enjoy a leisurely trip to yesteryear. The three-hour train ride into the Rocky Mountains will provide views of the San Juan National Forest alongside the beautiful Animas River. The train includes a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase.

At midday, we will spend two hours in the historic mining town of Silverton to enjoy the sights, shopping, and food. Guests may explore at their leisure. After this, we will return to Durango on the same train, with more time to experience the iconic Horseshoe Curve, High Bridge, and the Animas River Gorge, including all of the spectacular views from the High Line.

We will take time to grab a quick dinner in Durango before returning to the ranch for our last time of devotions. After devotions, guests may partake in leisure activities, such as games at the ranch house or relaxing by the bonfire. Guests also should pack and prepare for departure first thing the following morning.

Day Six

Today, we will gather early to depart from the Amanda Ranch to Albuquerque International Sunport. As time permits, we will stop in Albuquerque for an early lunch before checking in at the airport for our flights home. We will arrive home this evening with wonderful memories of our time spent at the Amanda Ranch in New Mexico!
